SKOKIE — An employee of the Dollar House Plus at 4616 Oakton St. was charged with felony aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and reckless discharge of a firearm for allegedly firing a gun into the ground about 9:50 p.m. Aug. 9 during a shoplifting incident near the store.
Karan Odisho, 27, of 8036 Kolmar, Skokie, is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 28 on the charges. A teenager allegedly involved in the shoplifting incident was also arrested.
Police said they responded to a report of “shots fired” and were told that three teenagers had grabbed bottles of vodka from the store and ran out the door.
A group of witnesses told police that a store employee later determined to be Odisho “shot a gun into the grass” right next to them in response to the retail theft that had just occurred.
A witness told police that Odisho and a female employee ran after “two guys who just stole a bottle,” police said. Odisho later admitted to having fired his gun two times, though it was unclear whether he was aiming at anyone or just trying to scare the alleged perpetrators, police said.
Bullet casings were found at the scene, police said.
Police found a backpack containing two bottles of vodka that allegedly were taken from the store. The teenager who allegedly took the vodka later turned himself in at the Skokie Police Department, where he arrived with his grandmother, police said.
