SKOKIE — Skokie firefighters continue to investigate a Sept. 2 fire at a Skokie senior living facility at 5140 Galitz St.

Two senior citizens were hospitalized after the blaze erupted in an apartment building near downtown Skokie.

Firefighters received a call at about 1:30 a.m. Sept. 2, Skokie Fire Capt. Ron Moritz said. The fire began in an apartment on the top floor of the seven-story building, according to fire officials.

Two people suffered injury due to the fire. A woman suffered some smoke inhalation, Moritz said, and another person became ill. Both were taken to a hospital, Moritz said, although additional information on their conditions was not released.

Moritz said investigators were still collecting details to help determine what caused the fire. A woman was still hospitalized as of Tuesday, officials said, and the investigation was not expected to be completed for another week.
