Skokie man charged in hit-and-run that killed Park Ridge pedestrian

SKOKIE — A Skokie man who works as an emergency medical technician has been arrested in connection with an accident that killed a Park Ridge resident.
Kristian Hernandez, 36, of the 8200 block of Knox Avenue, has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident and failure to report an accident resulting in a death. He appeared in bond court Friday, Nov. 9, where bail was set at $100,000.
Cook County sheriff’s police said a bicyclist on Nov. 5 found the body of 53-year-old Ronald Bougan of Park Ridge in a grassy area adjacent to Touhy Avenue near Axehead Lake. His injuries were consistent with those of being struck by a car, said sheriff’s department spokesman Frank Bilecki.
According to police, detectives began canvassing area auto body shops in an attempt to locate a vehicle that had sustained damage consistent with the accident. Pieces of the vehicle were also recovered at the scene, police said. Investigators later learned that a man had taken his black Dodge Challenger to a repair shop in Skokie and that the vehicle and the damage it had sustained matched that of the car police were looking for. This led police to arrest Hernandez on Nov. 7.
During questioning police said Hernandez, who works as an EMT for a private ambulance company in Skokie, admitted to being involved in the hit-and-run that caused Bougan’s death.
“He admitted to drinking and being at a number of drinking establishments before the accident,” Bilecki told Pioneer Press, adding that Hernandez also stated he was aware he had struck someone.
Sheriff’s police said Hernandez has been arrested seven times in the past for offenses that have included domestic battery, possession of a stolen vehicle and violation of an order of protection.
His next court date is Dec. 4.
