Weather looks clear for Skokie Fourth of July parade, fireworks

A vibrant parade filled with colors and entertainment by day, catchy music and spectacular fireworks by night.

That’s how many people Thursday will celebrate the Fourth of July, and they will not have to leave Skokie to do so.

The weather indicates an ideal day and night for such activities: Not too hot (79 degrees high in the day) and only a small chance for rain.

The Fourth of July Parade kicks off at noon July 4 in downtown Skokie but with a slightly shorter and alternative route because of construction.

The parade begins at Lincoln Avenue at Howard Street and heads south to Skokie Boulevard. Once on Skokie Boulevard, the parade, will head north to Oakton Street, then east on Oakton to Oakton Park.

Following parade day comes fireworks night.

Musical entertainment starts the night off at 5 p.m. on the grounds of Niles West High School, 5701 Oakton St. Upon dusk, the annual and popular 3-D fireworks extravaganza is scheduled.

Event sponsors for Fourth of July activities include the Village of Skokie and the Skokie Park District.
