Below is a description of the photo, submitted by Ezra-Habonim, the Niles Township Jewish Congregation:

This is a photo of Rabbi Jeffrey Weill with His Eminence Francis Cardinal George at Ezra-Habonim, the Niles Township Jewish Congregation, 4500 W. Dempster, Skokie, Thursday, Jan. 9.

The Cardinal delivered a speech about the book, “On Heaven and Earth: Pope Francis on Faith, Family and the Church in the 21st Century,” co-authored by Pope Francis and the pope’s friend, Rabbi Abraham Skorka of Buenos Aires.

More than 200 persons attended the program. Following his address, His Eminence answered questions including one on the process of electing a pope. After hearing the qualifications of all the candidates in formal session, discussing them in smaller groups and praying over our choices, the cardinal said, “We vote. And we’re often surprised by how our selection turns out.” Pope Francis, the cardinal said, has turned out to be “quite different, in a good way,” from the cardinal we were with in the conclave.
