EBay isn’t for the faint of heart. Or those with itchy bid fingers. Pressing the “buy it now” button prematurely can result in tears.
Trust me: A too-good-to-pass-up deal on an iconic Diane von Furstenberg wrap dress was just that — a fake shipped from China that disintegrated after the second wearing.
Loree Wasserman of Highland Park can save novices from these sorts of pricey mistakes.
Wasserman’s Loree’s Closet specializes in selling clients’ castoffs on consignment online.
“We research every single item that comes through our doors, and price it to the eBay market,” she said. “We just don’t throw it online. We are confident we can get the best price for our clients.”
Wasserman started her business after selling a handbag in 2007. When her friends asked her to sell their designer castoffs, the newly-minted eBay entrepreneur figured out she had a viable business on her hands. She enlisted the help of Laura Pulice and the two friends launched LoreesCloset.com from Wasserman’s basement.
Fast-forward five years and the pair (and staff of 12) have sold more than 6,000 items.
Consigning with Loree’s Closet is simple: The shop gives a client 50 percent of the sale price for items less than $500, with an additional 10 percent if it sells for more than $500.
And when you can’t find it anywhere else, check her site. Someone put up a sold-out pair of Prada Sport Calzature Donna boots (retail $530) in black leather.
The winner scored a deal: authentic Prada for $320.
