Zarcone, President and CEO of The Economic Club of Chicago. Zarone will also be the keynote speaker. Easter Seals and Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana Fundraiser: Aug. 4., 5-9 p.m., The Sanfilippo Estate, Barrington Hills. Carousel riders will test their fundraising prowess as they climb aboard the Eden Palais, a spectacular European salon carousel located at The Sanfilippo Estate in Barrington Hills, Illinois. The 18th Century French carousel will serve as a unique fundraising vehicle to raise money for both Easter Seals and Ronald McDonald House Charities Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana. Participants will go round and round and up and down, armed only with their cell phones as they call friends and contacts to solicit donations for the two nonprofit organizations. Riders will not be allowed off the carousel until they’ve reached their individual fundraising goals. Easter Seals and Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana have a combined fundraising goal of $115,000 between them. Shriners Hospital for Children “Summer Music Festival” Benefit: Aug. 4., noon to 7:30 p.m., Grill in the Park (Lincoln Park), 248 W. Diversey Pkwy., Chicago. Presented by Arts4Kids Foundation in collaboration with Kontinent Media Group, Connect.Inspire.Grow. This family oriented fundraising event will feature an appearance by Chris Errera, a Chicago-based musician and composer extraordinaire as seen on Rosie O’Donnell and Fox News. He’s been in and out of Shriners Hospitals suffering from diastrophic dwarfism. Miss Chicago, Marisa Buchheit will appear and a popular Chicago band Guitarra Azul will perform their rhythm Contemporary Latin, Mediterranean and Middle Eastern music. Popular local bands including The Eli Story, Amanda Sena, Paul Gilvary (Acoustic as Bob Dylan) and an 11 year old Eastern European solo artist sensation, Kayla Alexis, will perform. The event will include a raffle and fun activities for children. ROAR Ralph Russo ALS Memorial Golf Classic Benefit: Aug. 13, Itasca Country Club, Itasca. The event is held in memory of Ralph Russo who lost his long battle with ALS, commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, in September 2010. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m., followed by lunch before the 1:00 p.m. shotgun start. Dinner and awards will begin at 6:00 p.m. and the evening program will include a paddle raise, raffle and exciting live auction. Proceeds from the ROAR (Reaching Out Around Ralph) golf outing will support The Ralph Russo Patient and Family Services Grant Program, which provides financial assistance to patients in need of equipment such as wheelchairs and bathroom adaptations. Early registration is recommended. The event fee is $250 per player, which includes golf, cart, lunch and dinner. Dance for Life Benefit: Aug. 18., 5 p.m., gala reception, Hilton Chicago Grand Ballroom, 720 S. Michigan, Chicago. Chicago’s leading dance troupes unite to raise funds for HIV/AIDS Prevention and Services. Mangel Gifts of Long Grove will host Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation to support pediatric cancer patients and research. The old-fashioned lemonade stand will greet guests in front of Mangel Gifts. Chicago Opera Theater’s (COT) Opera Underground “I’m On a Boat!” Fundraiser: Aug. 23, 6:15 p.m. boarding. COT’s young person’s social club (ages 21-45) start a new tradition with its first annual Booze Cruise (youtube.com/watch?v=9iUjx4_X1qA0 . Guests will coast down the Chicago River and Lake Michigan on Chicago Cruises’ “Summer of George” while enjoying wine, beer, a delicious assortment of hors d’oeuvres, and opera selections performed by COT singers. Guests will begin boarding at 6:15 p.m. from Chicago Cruises’ dock in front of the 330 N. Wabash Building, from where they will depart at 6:30 for the 2-hour cruise. The ticket will include a wine and beer bar with light hors d’oeuvres. 46th annual Woman’s Club of Wilmette Rummage Sale: Aug. 25, 8 a.m.-3 p.m., Woman’s Club of Wilmette, 930 Greenleaf Ave., Wilmette. Whole Foods Market Evanston South is co-hosting with the local disability non-profit JJ’s List to help everyone build confidence and comfort in interacting positively with individuals who have disabilities. The store and JJ’s List will make fun learning opportunities available to visitors. Visitors will have their questions about interacting with disability answered by volunteers who have personal experience with disabilities. They can learn how to “sighted-guide” a person who is blind, and they will find useful tips and facts about disability throughout the store.
