The Youth Job Center of Evanston held its annual gala celebration on April 28, 2012, at Union Station in Chicago. The historic great hall was packed with 425 YJC supporters for a festive evening that included dinner, dancing, silent and live auctions. The evening’s host, Val Warner from ABC’s Channel 7, Windy City Live, kept the audience entertained along with Evanston’s own jazz ensemble, Chris Miller and the Conductors. The Keynote Speaker, Cook County Board President, Toni Preckwinkle, spoke about the importance of developing a strong future workforce and how it benefits everyone in the community.
Over $100,000 was raised between the live and silent auctions and the raffle game, “Red Light, Green Light” where guests purchased a chance to participate in a true/false game that concluded with the one person left standing winning two round-trip airline tickets anywhere in the US!
The Youth Job Center is a nonprofit agency in Evanston that assists job seekers ages 14-25 in finding employment. The YJC also works with employers to help them meet their staffing needs by referring applicants who are trained in basic job skills and ready to get to work. Youth Job Center will celebrate 30 years in 2013.
