Area Indian community celebrates Republic Day

The Indian Community of Niles Township will sponsor a Republic Day celebration from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Fairview School, 7040 N. Laramie Ave.

The event will include patriotic, folk and classical dances and songs including the melodies of Lata Didi, Rafi Saheb , Kishore Da, Jagjit Singh Ji and many more.

Tickets are $10 and include take-home snacks at the end of the program. Children under age 5 are admitted free.

Republic Day commemorates Jan. 26, 1950 when the Constitution of India went into effect as the governing document of India. It is one of the three national holidays in India.
