The Skokie Village Board took the following actions at its most recent meeting.
Proclaimed February National Burn Awareness Month.
Appointed Harshad C. Shah to a two-year term on the Consumer Affairs Commission.
Reappointed Dr. A. Michael Drachler to a two-year term, one as chairman, on the Board of Health.
Reappointed Howard S. Meyer to a two-year term on the Consumer Affairs Commission.
Reappointed James O. Coney to a three-year term, one year as chairman, on the Human Relations Commission.
Approved a resolution that combines several lots into one lot on the 9300 block of Weber Park Place. The Skokie Park District originally proposed acquiring a parcel of land next to its Weber Park facility to construct an additional lot for employee parking. The Park District determined that the new lot was not necessary and it would not acquire the land, but the subdivision went forward.
Approved rezoning property on the 9300 block of Weber Park Place that is occupied by the Weber Leisure Center, Skatium Ice Arena, Fitness First! and Accelerated Rehabilitation Center from a R2 single family residential to a B2 commercial district.
Approved an ordinance vacating an unopened and unimproved alley in the 9500 block bounded by Golf Road, Leclaire Avenue, Foster Street and Leamington Avenue. During an inspection of the alley, a shed was discovered behind 9554 Leclaire Ave. The shed had been constructed without a permit and the property owner was notified that the vacation would not be recorded until the shed was removed from the portion of the right of way that will be vested to the neighbor at 5117 Golf Road.
Approved modification to a previously approved special use permit for a bank with a drive-through facility at 4200 Dempster St. The modification allows an ATM to be available 24 hours a day in one of the four drive-through lanes; removal of a requirement for a patrol man; and revision of the hours of operation of the teller assisted drive-through lanes to 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
Approved a zoning map amendment and a site plan for a three-flat building to be used as a two-unit congregate living facility on the 5100 block of Suffield Court. The petitioners intend to use the first and second floor three-bedroom apartments as congregate residences for senior citizens.
Although some residents raised concerns about the operation, mostly about parking, the petitioners announced they had secured four additional spaces for use at a nearby car wash. Trustee Don Perille and Mayor George Van Dusen voted against the project.
