Police Blotter for Jan. 23

The following incidents were listed in the official reports of the Skokie Police Department. Readers are reminded that an arrest by police does not constitute a finding of guilt; only a court of law can make that determination.
BURGLARY
A wallet containing gift cards and other miscellaneous cards was taken between noon and 2 p.m. Jan. 11 from a vehicle parked at Westfield Old Orchard. Police said the vehicle had been left unlocked and the wallet was taken from the glove compartment.
A credit card was taken between 5:15 p.m. and 5:20 p.m. Jan. 16 from a residence on the 7400 block of Lincoln Avenue. Police said a young man knocked on the victim’s door and said that he was there to check the water. He entered the residence when the victim became suspicious, police said, and then she saw another man exit one of her bedrooms. The suspects then left the residence, police said. The victim told police she believes her son’s credit card was taken from a dresser drawer.
A brief case with contents valued at $60 and coins were taken between 5:30 p.m. Jan. 11 and 7:30 a.m. Jan. 12 from a vehicle parked on the 90 block of Samoset Lane. Police said there were no signs of force to the vehicle. Legal papers from the brief case were found scattered on the sidewalk, police said.
A purse valued at $230 and containing a passport was taken between 11:45 a.m. and 12:20 p.m. Jan. 18 from a vehicle parked at the Arie Crown Hebrew Day School on the 4600 block of Main Street. The driver’s side front window was broken to gain entry police said. The purse had been located on the driver’s seat, police said.
DRUGS
Cedric J. Lewis, 21, of 11636 S. Harvard, Chicago is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 21 on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia stemming from an incident between 3:34 a.m. and 4 a.m. Jan. 19 on the 4100 block of Dempster Street. Police said Lewis was pulled over for making an illegal turn. A metal grinder for using marijuana was found under the driver’s seat inside the vehicle, police said. Lewis was also cited for making an improper turn.
Brandon R.C. Warlick-Shields, 21, of 9212 N. Linder, Morton Grove, is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 13 on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia stemming from an incident at about 10:40 a.m. Dec. 7 on the 3600 block of Church Street. Police said Warlick-Shields was pulled over for speeding. A grinder with marijuana residue was found inside his vehicle, police said. He was also cited with driving without a valid driver’s license and speeding.
THEFT
Two men left Buffalo Wild Wings without paying their bills after 8:30 p.m. Jan. 16 in Village Crossing on the 7000 block of Carpenter Road. Police said the victims, a male and female couple, had racked up a bill for alcohol of more than $44 and then left through the front door without paying.
Do Kyung Lee, 19, of 6116 Ashcroft, Edina, Minn. is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 28 on a retail theft charge stemming from an incident at 8:16 p.m. Jan. 13 in Nordstrom at the Old Orchard mall. Police said Lee tried to leave the store without paying for merchandise valued at more than $344.
A down sprout valued at $70 was taken between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. Jan. 11 from a residence on the 8000 block of Lowell Avenue. Police said a heating cord was damaged when the down sprout was disconnected and removed.
A chain link fence was removed from the side of a residence between 3:30 p.m. Jan. 17 and 6 p.m. Jan. 18 on the 5000 block of Wright Avenue.
Demitris Devon Howell, 23, of 8112 Kostner, Skokie, is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 9 on a retail theft charge stemming from an incident between 3:30 p.m. and 3:45 p.m. Jan. 18 in Macy’s at the Old Orchard mall. Police said Howell tried to leave the store without paying for merchandise valued at nearly $60.
A bag containing an umbrella, boots, shoes, bank papers and a jogging suit all valued at $500 was taken at about 10 a.m. Jan. 18 at a bus stop on the 5000 block of Dempster Street. Police said the victim set the bag down and then a few minutes later noticed it was missing.
Miscellaneous tools, a freezer, two wheelchairs and three walkers, utensils and jewelry were taken between noon Oct. 20 and noon Nov. 28 from a former resident of Grove North Living & Rehab Center on the 9000 block of Lavergne Avenue. Police said the nursing home stored the victim’s belongings at Public Storage on the 8200 block of Skokie Boulevard when she left. The victim noticed several of her belongings though were missing, police said.
Zina Abdulahad, 29, of 4253 W. Devon, Chicago, was awaiting bond court on a retail theft charge stemming from an incident between 6:14 p.m. and 9:10 p.m. Dec. 11 at TJ Maxx on the 3300 block of Golf Road. Police said Abdulahad, an employee, tried to take a watch valued at $600. She later admitted to having taken merchandise from the store over a five-month period that could be valued at more than $25,000, police said. Some of the incidents were captured over video surveillance, police said.
A 2008 Mercury Grand Marquis taxi cab was taken between 2 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Jan. 17 while parked on the 4900 block of Crain Street. Police said the vehicle was parked in front of the victim’s residence with the doors unlocked and a key inside the glove compartment.
CRIMINAL
TRESPASS
Larry A. Davis, 41, of 1811 Monroe, Evanston, was charged with one count of criminal trespass stemming from an incident between 5:15 p.m. and 5:27 p.m. Jan. 16 at Public Storage on the 8200 block of Oakton Street. Police said Davis was found sleeping in the elevator of a maintenance room. A representative of Public Storage said the business has been having problems with tenants renting storage units and then sleeping in the building without permission. Some tenants have 24-hour access to the building, police said.
