Police Blotter

The following incidents were listed in the official reports of the Skokie and Lincolnwood Police Departments. Readers are reminded that an arrest by police does not constitute a finding of guilt; only a court of law can make that determination.

BURGLARY

A vehicle was broken into between 5 p.m. Jan. 11 and 6:30 a.m. Jan. 12 while parked on the 9100 block of Samoset Lane. The interior was rifled through, police said, but nothing was reported taken.

Construction equipment including a generator and a compactor both valued at $13,000 was taken between 1:15 a.m. and 1:22 a.m. Jan. 11 from a vehicle parked at the Extended Stay Hotel on the 5200 block of Old Orchard Road. Police said the equipment was chained together but not secured in the truck.

A television valued at $500 was taken between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Jan. 17 from a residence on the 8600 block of Keeler Avenue. Police said the victim noticed that the front door was left partially open and muddy footprints were found throughout the house. Window screens inside the house were disturbed, police said, and one screen was left on the ground in front of the house.

Four vehicle rims valued at $2,000, a snow blower valued at $750 and a microwave valued at $200 were taken between 7 p.m. Jan. 22 and 6 p.m. Jan. 25 from an unattached garage on the 8600 block of Kedvale Avenue. The frame of the garage door was damaged to gain entry, police said.

Cash of $6,108 was taken between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Jan. 10 from a vehicle parked at an unknown location. Police said the victim, who works for a beauty supply distributing company located on the 5200 block of Touhy Avenue, was collecting payments from her clients including collecting cash, which she placed under the driver’s seat. Police said the victim was unsure where the money was taken since she made several stops and didn’t not notice it missing until later. There were no signs of forced entry to the vehicle, police said, and the victim was unsure whether she left the vehicle doors locked.

Thirty one spare tires were removed from as many vehicles between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. Dec. 11 while parked at Martin Nissan on the 5200 block of Golf Road. Police said the cable on the tire lift mechanism underneath each vehicle was cut to allow access to the tire. Twenty eight of the vehicles were new and had new spare tires, police said.

Music CDs valued at $150 were taken between 10 p.m. Jan. 23 and 8 a.m. Jan. 24 from a vehicle parked on the 7500 block of Tripp Avenue. Police said the locks on the vehicle door were not working.

THEFT

Jamesha Genal Dobbins, 18, of 365 W. King, Chicago, is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 28 on a retail theft charge stemming from an incident between 5:25 p.m. and 5:31 p.m. Jan. 21 at Bloomingdales at Westfield Old Orchard. Police said Dobbins tried to leave the store without paying for merchandise valued at $180. Police said Dobbins was with others and tried to run away from the scene.

Copper tubes that are part of a sculpture were taken between 6 p.m. Jan. 20 and 5:17 p.m. Jan. 23 from the outside west wall of the Skokie Public Library, 5215 Oakton St. The pieces were 1 to 2 feet long, police said.

Decorative iron swans valued at $400 were taken between 10 p.m. Jan. 20 and 8 a.m. Jan. 21 from the front yard of a residence on the 8100 block of Keeler Avenue.

The rear gate of a fence valued at $100 was taken between 6 a.m. Jan. 18 and 6 p.m. Jan. 19 from a residence on the 5000 block of Lee Street.

A copper down sprout valued at $500 was taken between 5:20 p.m. Jan. 10 and 5:30 a.m. Jan. 11 from outside the Skokie Heritage Museum on the 8000 block of Floral Avenue. Two similar down sprouts were taken the day before, police said.

A wallet was taken from a customer between 11:48 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. Jan. 19 at Panera Bread on the 9600 block of Skokie Boulevard. The wallet was removed from the victim’s purse, police said. The wallet contained miscellaneous cards including credit cards, one of which was used to make $1,700 in purchases at Best Buy in the same shopping center, police said.

A clothes dryer valued at $200 was taken between 11:30 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. Jan. 19 from the back of a residence on the 8700 block of Kimball Avenue. The dryer was inoperable because of a fire and had been placed in the rear of the residence for an insurance adjuster to take pictures of it, police said.

A wedding band valued at $5,000 and two necklaces valued at $120 were taken between 10:30 a.m. July 20 and 10:30 a.m. Sept. 20 from inside a residence on the 9500 block of Lamon Avenue. The wedding band was on top of a dresser, police said.

Military style clothes valued at more than $228 were taken between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Jan. 19 from a building on the 4600 block of Madison Street. Police said the clothes were packaged and delivered by FedEx. FedEx had reported the package as having been delivered, police said.

A concrete breaker valued at $2,000 was taken at about 3 p.m. June 9 on the 9500 block of Kilbourn Avenue. Police said one of the victim’s hourly workers left the construction site to deliver the concrete breaker to another site and never returned to work.

Seven feet of copper gutter valued at $50 was taken between 8 p.m. Jan. 25 and 7:30 a.m. Jan. 26 from the outside of a building on the 8100 block of Karlov Avenue.

Jewelry valued at $3,800 was taken between 3 p.m. Nov. 23 and 1 p.m. Jan. 13 from an apartment at Cambridge Nursing Home on the 9600 block of Knox Avenue. Police said the victim’s granddaughter noticed the missing jewelry from her dresser during several visits.

A wallet containing miscellaneous cards was taken between 1:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. Jan. 24 from the Corner Bakery restaurant at the Old Orchard mall. Police said the wallet was removed from the victim’s purse. The victim learned her cards were used to make two $1,000 purchases at a Target store in Highland Park and another card to make a $900 purchase at another Target store.

Jewelry valued at $2,500 was taken between 4 p.m. Dec. 25 and 10:20 a.m. Jan. 24 from a residence on the 9200 block of Karlov Avenue. The jewelry was taken from a jewelry box located in a tray on the victim’s dresser, police said.
