Police Blotter for Feb. 6

The following incidents were listed in the official reports of the Skokie Police Departments. Readers are reminded that an arrest by police does not constitute a finding of guilt; only a court of law can make that determination.
ROBBERY
A wallet valued at $50 and containing $250 in currency and miscellaneous cards was taken in a strong-armed robbery at about 2:15 p.m. Jan. 27 on the 7800 block of Niles Avenue. Police said the victim was pushed from behind and shoved to the ground by two men. When she got up, police said, one of the men demanded her wallet and reached inside her coat pocket and took it. Police said the suspects fled the area traveling south on Niles.
A cell phone was taken in a strong-armed robbery between 5:15 p.m. and 5:20 p.m. Jan. 28 on the 9000 block of Lamon Avenue. Police said the victim sometimes cuts the hair of friends and acquaintances in her basement. The incident occurred during such an incident, police said. A suspect grabbed the cell phone and would not give it back.
BURGLARY
A blanket valued at $20 was taken between 6:50 p.m. Jan. 27 and 9:46 a.m. Jan. 28 from a vehicle parked on the 7500 block of Kenton Avenue. Police said a brick was used to smash the passenger’s-side front window. Damage was estimated at $200, police said.
A music player and cord valued at $150 were taken at about 9:35 p.m. Jan. 27 from a vehicle parked on the 9400 block of Karlov Avenue. Police said the vehicle had been left unlocked.
Five antique lamps valued at $4,000 were taken between 6 p.m. Jan. 19 and 6:44 p.m. Feb. 2. from a residence on the 8700 block of Kimball Avenue. Police said the lamps were taken from a locked storage area There were no signs of force to the outside doors, police said.
Headphones valued at $200 and miscellaneous books and magazines were taken between 5:15 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Jan. 30 from a vehicle parked on the 4300 block of Oakton Street. Police said it is unknown how the vehicle was entered.
Police said two men were seen removing lawn care equipment from a trailer in two at noon Jan. 8 on the 3400 block of Howard Street. Police said the men fled the scene. The following day, police said, locks had been cut off the side doors of the same trailer, police said.
A GPS navigation unit valued at $250 and a music player valued at $100 were taken between 9:30 p.m. Jan. 27 and 3:35 a.m. Jan. 28 from two vehicles parked inside a garage on the 5100 block of Dobson Street. Police said eyeglasses valued at $50 were found broken on the ground. Police said the interior of the vehicles were ransacked.
Two men were seen inside a garage at about 10:45 p.m. Jan. 22 on the 8700 block of Ridgeway Avenue. Police said one of the men immediately fled the area while the other man was seen sitting behind the driver’s seat of a vehicle in the garage before he took off as well.
An electronic game system, a computer and a television were taken between 7:50 a.m. and 5 p.m. Jan. 26 from a residence on the 8800 block of Lavergne Avenue. Police said the rear door to the residence, an apartment, was forced open to gain entry.
A catalytic converter valued at $800 was taken between 6 p.m. Dec. 20 and 6 a.m. Dec. 22 from a vehicle parked at Joey’s Movers and Truckers on the 7300 block of Ridgeway Avenue. The catalytic converter was cleanly cut from underneath a truck, police said.
A variety of clothes valued at $130 was taken between 4:01 p.m. and 6:01 p.m. Jan. 31 from a vehicle parked at California Pizza Kitchen at Westfield Old Orchard. A sharp tool was used to force open a door lock, police said.
THEFT
A piece of construction equipment, a concrete breaker, valued at $2,000, was taken at about 3 p.m. June 9 on the 9600 block of Kilbourn Avenue.
A wallet valued at $150 and containing $80 in cash and various cards was taken between 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Jan. 29 from a customer at Corner Bakery at the Old Orchard mall. Police said the wallet was inside a purse hanging from the back of the victim’s chair. One of her credit cards was used to make fraudulent purchases at a Target store, police said.
Saif M. Ahsanullah, 28, of 8114 Keating, Skokie, is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 28 on a retail theft charge stemming from an incident between 8:45 p.m. Dec. 30 and 11 p.m. Jan. 21 in Nordstrom at the Old Orchard mall. Ahsanullah, an employee, took $100 from the cash register Dec. 30 and then made a purchase, police said. Two similar incidents occurred in January before he was apprehended, police said. He was charged with three counts of retail theft.
OBSTRUCTION
Dametre Irby, 20, of 1609 W. Howard, Chicago, was scheduled to appear in court Jan. 6 on a charge of obstruction of identification stemming from an incident at about 1:20 a.m. Dec. 4 on the 8200 block of McCormick Boulevard. Police said they saw three men, one of them Irby, near McCormick Boulevard who then ran into the sculpture park. Police stopped the three and asked for identification, but Irby provided a false name, police said. Police said they had no record of the name provided. Police learned Irby had an “extensive criminal history” when they discovered his correct name, they said.
