Wilmette Police nab three teens for burglaries

Wilmette police have arrested and charged three Evanston teenage boys in connection with a flurry of garage and auto burglaries in the middle section of the Wilmette.
All three are 16 years old, and they are all being petitioned to juvenile court, Wilmette Police Chief Brian King said in a June 15 press release. One faces counts of possessing a stolen motor vehicle and non-residential burglary. The other two face counts of possessing stolen property, and, in one case, non-residential burglary.
King said Wilmette detectives picked up the three teens from different Evansston locations, and questioned them about their involvement in several automobile and garage burglaries in Wilmette, Skokie and Kenilworth over the past three to four weeks.
All three made statements admitting to their involvement in the thefts, King said.
“We are currently seeking others in connection with these cases.”
King said one of the teens also admitted to being involved in the theft of a Nissan Altima that was later recovered last week on the 900 block of Chestnut Avenue in Wilmette.
King repeated a plea department officials have made regularly this year, encouraging residents to lock their property before leaving it unattended.
“It is significant to note that each of these thefts and burglaries involved unlocked cars and garages,” he said.
