SKOKIE — A small daycare center has the green light to open near Dempster Street and Gross Point Road in Skokie after Village Trustees approved Nov. 5 a special use permit for the facility.
The center will open in a building that was long occupied by a sports card shop at 5125 Dempster St.
The daycare center will initially accommodate 10 children ranging in age from infancy to 4 who are staffed by four to five employees, Plan Commission Chairman Paul Luke said.
However, the center can accommodate a maximum of 92 children and have a total staff of 12 to 13 employees.
Although Dempster and Gross Point is an active intersection, all vehicular drop-off and pick-up will take place at the rear of the building. That’s where the primary entrance to the day care center will be located as well.
The existing parking lot behind the building will be reconfigured to allow for installation of a fenced-in play area nearly 1,000 square feet.
The day care facility is run by Dynamics LLC VI, on behalf of Mark Feyman, Barry Benveniste, and Amber Grafman.
Community Development Director Peter Peyer said significant upgrades will be made to the outside of the facility.
“This was a former card shop and the facade was the same for many, many years,” he said. He said the new owners will brighten it up.”
