Police are investigating the battery of a 21-year-old man in an incident where gunshots were fired Tuesday night on the 8300 block of Kilpatrick Avenue.
Police said they were called to the scene at about 9:15 p.m. Tuesday after receiving several reports of shots fired in the area of Kilpatrick and Main Street.
Police were told that a four-door vehicle occupied by four to six males pulled up on the west side of Kilpatrick, two spots south of Main Street.
When the males left the vehicle, police said, they began yelling at the victim who walked down his stairs and yelled back. Police said the group continued to yell back and forth when the victim removed his shirt and challenged the group.
One of the males broke out a vehicle window during the fight, police said, and everyone fled the area. The same vehicle returned 10 minutes later, and the driver parked in the same spot, according to police.
The group and the victim continued to yell back and forth until the victim came down his stairs holding a “sharp object” described by police as possibly being a knife.
Police said the group then jumped and punched the victim, knocking him to the ground. The group kicked the victim several times when the victim heard popping sounds believed to be gunshots, prompting everyone to flee the area again.
The case remains under investigation.~.
