Donations for eye
doctor’s sponsor

Ophthalmologist Stuart Sondheimer’s expiditions overseas to perform needed eye surgeries, described in last week’s Skokie Review, were partly sponsored by Surgical Eye Expeditions International.

More than 600 ophthalmologists from 75 countries belong to Surgical Eye Expeditions International’s global network of volunteers, who donate their time and professional services to restoring sight worldwide. Up to 130 expeditions are coordinated each year by Surgical Eye Expeditions International.

Helton wins teachers union scholarship

Blake Helton, a student at Niles West High School, has won a Mary Wheeler Scholarship award of $1,700.

The award is given by the West Suburban Teachers Union, Local 571, of the American Federation of Teachers, to sons and daughters of members. Winners exhibited the highest academic standards and involvement in school and community service. Helton’s scholarship is one of six awarded to other students.
