Winners in
speech contest

Three Upper School Mandarin students competed in the Fourth Midwest Chinese Speech Contest on April 21 at Northside College Preparatory High School in Chicago. Josh Hoeflich of Glencoe and Sophia Mondi of Winnetka received silver medals in level 1 and level 3 groups, respectively. Will Skinner of Winnetka received a gold medal in the level 4 group. In addition, three Upper School French students participated in a French oral forensics competition April 21. Sydney Shafer of Highland Park, Hannah Klaeser of Glenview, and Ilhana Redzovic of Chicago were awarded the highest recognition in oral competition for their Reader’s Theater piece.

Tap Theatre visit

The Franke Family Fund, established in 2008, is an endowment for programs that enhance students’ experiences during the academic year. This year, the Franke Fund program was developed by Upper School Drama Teacher Julia Macholl. During the week of April 23, the School hosted Chicago Tap Theatre. Through performances and workshops, students were taught the history and art form of Tap dance and storytelling.

Grandparents Day

Grandparents’ Day returned to North Shore this year on May 4. Grandparents of all students visited the School for a presentation in the Diller Street Theater before receiving a tour and visiting their grandchild’s classroom.

Bake sale

The second grade held the 12th annual bake sale on May 1 to benefit Barnswallow, a refuge for injured or orphaned birds of prey in Wauconda run by Linda Breuer,. The students adopted Buckeye, a baby great horned owl that had fallen 50 feet from its nest on March 21 and raised $1,837.38 for its care.
