Summer hours
Summer hours at Oakton begin May 25. The college will be closed on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays until the week of Aug. 6.
Summer-class registration continues at the Des Plaines campus, 1600 E. Golf Road, and Skokie campus, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave. Eight-week courses begin the week of June 4 and seven-week courses begin the week of June 11. During summer hours, students may register in person at both campuses, 8:30 a.m.-7 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays. Online registration is available at my.oakton.edu, 6:45 a.m.-10 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.

Career in health information tech
A free information session for those interested in a career as a health information technologist will be given June 7. This seminar, which showcases the college’s degree and certificate programs in this health career program, is scheduled at 6 p.m., at Oakton’s Des Plaines campus, 1600 E. Golf Road (Room 1625). Faculty will be on hand to discuss course requirements and industry trends.
Additional upcoming sessions in June at Oakton’s Des Plaines campus include – Radiologic technology: June 13, at 2 p.m. (Room 1560); Nursing: June 26, at 3 p.m. (Room 1604).

Arts and Humanities Festival
Considered the greatest novelist of the Victorian Era, Charles Dickens is famous for his intricate plots, keen political observations, sense of humor, and depiction of working class hardships. Learn more about his works during a summer lecture series offered by the Emeritus Program at Oakton.
“What the Dickens? Popular! Prolific! Pertinent!” is a seven-session series that meets for four weeks, starting June 5 at Oakton’s Skokie campus, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave. This arts and humanities festival examines the work of Dickens that is deservedly praised for realism, comedy, mastery of prose, unique personalities, and concern for social reform.
The series begins 10-11:30 a.m. with “Meet Dickens and His World,” an examination of the poverty, equity, and social justice experienced during Dickens’ time.
Other lectures include: “Great Expectation,” 1-3 p.m., June 5; “A Christmas Carol,” 10 a.m.-noon June 12; “Scrooge Revisited,” 1:30-3 p.m. June 12; “The Problem with Performing Oliver Twist,” 9:30 a.m.-noon June 19; “Dickens Behind Closed Doors,” 1-2:30 p.m. June 19; “David Copperfield,” 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. June 26.
The fee is $18 per lecture, or $70 for the entire series. Half-price tuition does not apply.

Computer Skills
Sharpen computer skills by enrolling in classes offered through the Oakton Alliance for Lifelong Learning. All featured courses meet at Oakton’s Skokie campus, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave.
Facebook: Getting Started (DAT E13-31) — Create a Facebook account. Learn about friend etiquette, groups, fan pages, sharing links, posting photos, privacy, and more. Session meets 2-4 p.m. June 4. Course fee is $20.
Microsoft Implementing and Managing Exchange Server (NTS A59-C31) – Gain the knowledge and skills to update and support a reliable, secure, messaging infrastructure, which can be used to create, store, and share information by using Microsoft Exchange Server. Eight-week course meets 6-9:50 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays starting June 4. Course fee is $313.
Basic and Intermediate Excel (DAT A14-31) – Learn to develop and maintain worksheets; enter formulas and functions; build and sort lists; create templates and charts; manage data; and use Excel with other programs. Eight-week course meets 6-9 p.m. Tuesdays starting June 5. Course fee is $230.
Microcomputer Hardware Systems (ECT A04-C31) – Explore the ins and outs of PC maintenance and repairs. Eight-week course meets 6-9:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays starting June 5. Course fee is $303.
